What an access control system actually is

The brain that stores users and decides who gets in. For most Pakistani offices that is a combined RFID and password keypad, or a rugged metal keypad for outdoor gates and high-traffic doors.

2. Reader and credentials

If you need a separate reader to enroll cards, a USB RFID reader handles it. Users then carry 125 kHz proximity cards, key fobs, or long-range UHF sticker tags for vehicle gates.

3. The electric lock

This is the part people most often get wrong. Match the lock to the door.

• Magnetic lock. A powerful electromagnet holding the door shut. A 280kg maglock suits heavy glass and main entrances, a 380kg maglock is better for wide, heavy or high-traffic doors. Frameless glass, inward-opening or narrow-frame doors also need a ZL mounting bracket so the lock has a surface to grip.
• Drop bolt lock. A bolt drops into the frame. The usual choice for frameless glass doors, or the general-purpose 12V drop bolt.
• Electric bolt lock. A concealed bolt, often with a status output so the system knows whether the door is really locked, like this 5-wire electric bolt lock.

4. Exit button
