Buying guide

Choosing a wireless alarm system

Wireless wins on installation, not on physics

A wireless kit goes in over an afternoon with no cable chasing, no damaged plaster and no rewiring when you rearrange a room. It also comes with you if you rent. For homes, flats and small shops that is usually the deciding factor. For a factory or a multi-zone site, wired is still the right answer.

GSM matters more here than WiFi does

A WiFi-only panel goes deaf the moment the internet drops or the power to the router fails — which in Pakistan is a routine event, not an edge case. A panel with a GSM SIM keeps calling and texting you regardless. Systems offering both are worth the difference.

Count your openings before you count zones

Every door and accessible window that needs monitoring is one sensor. Add the PIRs for internal rooms. Then choose a panel with more zones than that number, because you will add sensors later and expanding beyond the panel means replacing it.

Sensor batteries are the real maintenance item

Every wireless sensor runs on a battery, typically for one to two years. The panel will report a low battery, but only if you are still looking at the panel. Put a reminder in your phone for an annual check and it stops being an issue.

RFID arming stops the code being shared

A keypad code gets passed to a cleaner, then to a relative, then written on something. A card can be issued and cancelled, and you can tell who armed the system and when.

Test the range where it will actually live

Quoted wireless ranges assume open space. A sensor at the far corner of a house with two brick walls in between may sit at the edge of reliable. Test each sensor from its final position before screwing anything down.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a wireless alarm system cost in Pakistan?

A WiFi and GSM panel with touch keypad and RFID arming starts around Rs 17,999. GSM panels with keypad run about Rs 22,499. Additional wireless door sensors are Rs 999 and wireless PIR sensors Rs 1,800.

Are wireless alarms as reliable as wired ones?

For homes and small businesses, yes. Wired systems remain better for large or multi-zone sites, and have no sensor batteries to replace.

Will a wireless alarm work during load-shedding?

The panel has a backup battery and keeps running. A GSM panel will still call and text you. A WiFi-only panel loses notifications as soon as the router loses power, which is why GSM matters here.

What is the difference between a WiFi and a GSM alarm panel?

WiFi sends alerts over your internet connection. GSM uses a mobile SIM and works independently of your broadband and router. Panels with both give you a fallback.

How often do wireless sensor batteries need replacing?

Typically every one to two years depending on how often the sensor triggers. The panel reports low battery per sensor.

Can I add more sensors later?

Yes, up to the panel's zone limit. Buy a panel with spare zones — outgrowing it means replacing the panel, not just adding a sensor.
