Choosing an electric lock
Maglock or bolt lock is a door-type decision first
A magnetic lock clamps an armature plate with an electromagnet. Nothing is cut into the door, which makes it the obvious choice for glass and aluminium. An electric drop bolt throws a pin into the frame, which needs a hole but gives real mechanical resistance — the right answer for wooden and metal doors.
Then it is a fire-safety decision
A magnetic lock is fail-safe: cut the power and the door opens. That is exactly what you want on an escape route and exactly what you do not want on a store room during load-shedding. Drop bolts can be specified fail-secure and stay locked through a power cut. Decide which behaviour the door needs before you choose the technology.
Holding force: match the door, do not just buy the biggest
60kg suits a cabinet or a light internal door. 180kg is right for a standard office door. 280kg covers heavy glass and main entrances. 380kg is for wide, heavy or high-traffic doors people lean on. Over-specifying wastes money and draws more current; under-specifying means the door pops under a shoulder.
Budget for the bracket, it is not included
A frameless glass door or an inward-opening door needs a U or ZL bracket set at Rs 2,399–2,899 to hold the armature plate square. Ordering the lock without the bracket is the most common reason an installation stalls halfway.
Five-wire locks tell your system what the door is doing
The 5-wire NO/NC models add a status output, so the controller knows whether the door is actually secured rather than just whether it was told to lock. On any door that matters, that feedback is worth the small premium.
Manual override on bolt locks
The Rs 12,500 drop bolt with key cylinder can be released mechanically. On any door that could trap someone during a fault, that override is not optional.
