Buying guide

Choosing an emergency or control switch

A panic button beats another motion sensor

On a shop counter, a cash desk or a reception, the person is the detector. A discreet panic button under the counter turns them into the trigger, silently, without anyone opposite noticing. No sensor achieves that.

Foot switches exist for when hands are not free

A foot-operated panic switch works when someone is being watched, holding goods, or has their hands raised. It is the one panic device that cannot be seen being used.

Break-glass releases are a fire-safety item, not a security one

Any door on an escape route needs a way to kill lock power that works without electronics, training or a card. Resettable versions can be reused after a false alarm; non-resettable ones make sure nobody quietly puts it back.

Emergency stops use NC deliberately

A twist-reset emergency stop at Rs 1,999 breaks a normally closed circuit, so a cut or damaged wire stops the machine exactly as pressing the button would. Fail safe, not fail silent. Never wire an E-stop as normally open.

Control stations should match the motion they command

Up/Down, Left/Right and Up/Stop/Down panels are labelled for a reason — an operator under pressure reads the legend, not the wiring. For gates and shutters, the four-button Start/Stop/Up/Down panel at Rs 2,999 covers everything without a second box.

Key switches remove the argument

An Rs 1,649 key switch control box means a gate or motor can only be operated by someone holding the key. On shared premises that is simpler to enforce than a rule.

Frequently asked questions

What is a panic button used for?

It lets a person raise the alarm deliberately and silently — typically under a shop counter, at a cash desk or at reception. It complements automatic sensors rather than replacing them.

Why do emergency stop switches use NC contacts?

So the circuit is complete during normal running. A broken wire, a loose terminal or a pressed button all break it and stop the machine. A normally open E-stop would fail silently.

What is the difference between a resettable and non-resettable break glass?

A resettable unit uses a lever or key and can be restored after use. A non-resettable one has real glass that must be replaced, which guarantees the event gets recorded and inspected.

How much does a panic button cost in Pakistan?

Push button control boxes start at Rs 1,499, key switch boxes Rs 1,649, emergency stop rotary switches Rs 1,999, and gate control panels Rs 2,249–2,999.

Can a panic button be connected to an existing alarm panel?

Yes. Most panels accept a spare zone input. Wire it as a 24-hour zone so it triggers whether or not the system is armed.

Where should a panic button be mounted?

Somewhere reachable without moving or looking — under a counter lip or beside a knee. If it can be seen from the customer side of the counter, it is in the wrong place.
