Choosing a motion sensor
Lighting sensors and alarm sensors are not interchangeable
A 220V PIR switch is wired in series with a lamp and switches mains directly — it has no output to send anywhere. A 12V alarm PIR has no switching capacity at all; it just closes a contact for a panel. Buying the wrong one leaves you with a device that physically cannot do the job.
Match the load rating, in watts
The 220V sensors here are rated 20W, 30W, 50W and 200W. That figure is the maximum lamp load. LED bulbs draw very little, so a 30W sensor runs several of them — but the same sensor connected to an old incandescent fitting is already past its limit.
Mounting position decides whether it works
A ceiling 360° sensor covers a circle beneath it and suits corridors, stairs and landings. A wall sensor covers a fan-shaped area in front and suits a room entrance or a porch. Around 2–2.5 metres high, facing across the space rather than at a door, and away from sun, heaters and air-conditioning outlets — all three produce the moving heat a PIR is designed to notice.
Bulb holders and sensor bulbs skip the wiring entirely
An E27 bulb holder sensor at Rs 999– or a 9W motion sensor LED bulb screws straight into an existing fitting. For a stairwell, store room or bathroom, that is a five-minute job with no electrician.
Outdoor sensors need weatherproofing and a wider view

WiFi sensors are for notifications, not for switching
