Match the frequency or nothing will read
This is the mistake that causes almost every return. 125KHz (EM/HID proximity) and 13.56MHz (MIFARE/NFC) are different technologies, not different qualities. A 125KHz reader will never read a MIFARE card. Check what your existing reader says before you order, and if the reader is unlabelled, bring one working card to the counter.
UHF is for vehicles and distance, not for doors
The 860–960MHz UHF stickers and cards read from several metres away, which is what you want on a windscreen at a boom barrier. That same range is a liability on a door, where you do not want the reader triggering as someone walks past.
Choose the format by how it gets carried
Cards suit staff with lanyards and double as ID. Key fobs survive pockets and keyrings far better than cards, which crack. Silicone wristbands are the right answer for gyms, pools and anywhere hands are wet or people have no pockets.
Buy spares now, not later
Cards and fobs get lost, and matching the exact type months later is harder than it sounds. At Rs 100 a card, a spare ten costs less than one wasted trip.
A USB reader saves real time on setup
Enrolling fifty cards by presenting each one at the door, in order, is tedious and error-prone. A USB desktop reader at Rs 2,499 lets you register them at a computer instead.

What is the difference between 125KHz and 13.56MHz cards?

How do I know which card my access control system uses?

Can RFID cards be copied?
Basic 125KHz cards can be cloned with cheap equipment, which is fine for a store room and not for a server room. Encrypted MIFARE cards are considerably harder to duplicate.
Do I need a separate card for each door?
No. One card is registered against a person and can be authorised on as many doors as your controller supports.
What happens if a staff member loses their card?
Delete that card ID from the controller and issue another. This is the practical advantage cards have over fingerprints — access can be revoked in seconds without the person present.
