Choosing a rack
U is height, and it is the only sizing number that matters
One rack unit is 44.45mm. A 1U cabinet holds a single NVR or switch; a 4U holds a recorder, a switch, a UPS and still leaves a slot spare. Count the equipment you have today, then add at least 2U — sites always grow, and re-racking later costs more than the bigger cabinet would have.
Depth is what actually catches people out
Height is quoted everywhere and depth almost never is. An NVR with cables plugged into the back needs noticeably more depth than the chassis alone. Measure the deepest device you own, add 100mm for cabling, and check that against the cabinet before ordering.
Wall-mount or floor-standing
Wall-mount cabinets up to about 9U keep equipment off the floor and out of dust, which matters more in Pakistani conditions than most people expect. Beyond that the weight belongs on the floor — a loaded 12U cabinet on a hollow block wall is a genuine risk.
Double section means serviceable
The double-section cabinets have a hinged rear, so you can reach the back of the equipment without unmounting it. On any rack you will actually maintain, that is worth the difference.
Ventilation is not optional
A recorder writing continuously in a sealed cabinet in a Karachi summer will throttle or fail. Leave a clear U above heat-producing equipment, and choose a cabinet with a fan mount if the room is not air-conditioned.
