Before you order a touch switch
Check for a neutral wire first — this is the big one
Most WiFi touch switches need a neutral at the switch box to power their electronics. A great many Pakistani homes, particularly older ones, were wired with only live and switch-return at the plate. Take the existing switch off the wall and look before you order. Finding out afterwards is the single most common frustration with smart switches, and it is entirely avoidable.
Count gangs, then check the back box
A gang is one switched circuit. Count the switches on the plate you are replacing. Then measure the back box — glass touch panels are usually deeper than the mechanical switch they replace, and a shallow box means the plate will not sit flush.
Glass panels are unforgiving about the wall
A touch panel sits proud and flat, so any bow in the plaster shows as a shadow line down one edge. Worth a moment with a spirit level and some packing before the screws go in.
Load rating decides where the heavy switch goes
The 40A panel exists for water pumps, geysers and air conditioners — loads that will destroy a standard 10A switch over time. Match the switch to the appliance, not to the room.
Smart sockets are the low-risk starting point
A WiFi glass socket with USB and Type-C replaces a normal outlet and needs no rethinking of the lighting circuit. If you are testing whether smart control is worth it, start at a socket rather than rewiring a switch plate.
