Door Position Switch Price in Pakistan 2026: Door Contact Sensors for Alarms and Access Control

04 November 20265 min read

Quick answer: A door position switch (also called a door contact or magnetic reed switch) is a two-part sensor that tells an alarm panel or access controller whether a door is open or shut. The switch fits on the frame and the magnet on the door. At ZZ Marts (prices checked 4 November 2026), wired door contacts cost Rs 400 to Rs 600 for standard and recessed models, and Rs 1,499 to Rs 2,599 for heavy-duty metal door and rolling shutter models. Wireless door sensors cost Rs 1,049 for the W105 alarm panel and Rs 2,100 for a Tuya WiFi sensor. For security, choose an NC (normally closed) contact.

How a door position switch works

The switch half holds a reed switch: two thin metal contacts sealed in glass. The magnet half sits on the door. While the door is shut, the magnet holds the reed switch in one position; when the door opens, the magnet moves away and the switch changes state. The alarm panel or access controller reads that change as "door open". With nothing mechanical to wear out, reed contacts last for years.

NC or NO: which contact to choose

NC (normally closed) is the standard for security. The circuit is closed while the door is shut and opens when the door opens. Cutting the cable also opens the circuit, so an intruder cannot defeat the sensor by snipping the wire: the alarm goes off either way. NO (normally open) works the other way round; use it only when the device you are connecting asks for an NO input. The 3-wire NO/NC models give you both, so one contact can feed an alarm zone and switch a second device such as a relay or indicator light.

Which type for which door

  • Wooden doors in homes and offices: a recessed contact (Rs 500) is hidden inside the door and frame, looks neat and is hard to tamper with.
  • Retrofits and doors you cannot drill: a surface-mount contact such as the DH-32 (Rs 600) screws on in minutes.
  • Metal doors and gates: steel weakens the magnet's effect on an ordinary contact, so use the DH-56 or DH-55 heavy-duty metal contacts (Rs 1,499 to Rs 2,599).
  • Shop rolling shutters: the DH-58 (Rs 1,499) is built for the wide, uneven gap of a shutter.
  • No cable possible, or you want phone alerts: a wireless sensor for the W105 panel (Rs 1,049) or a Tuya WiFi sensor (Rs 2,100).

Door position switch vs lock status output

A door position switch tells you the door is shut. A magnetic lock with a status output tells you the lock is holding. A door can be closed but not locked, so a fully monitored door uses both. At ZZ Marts, magnetic locks with a status output cost Rs 5,199 (280kg) and Rs 12,799 (380kg); see the magnetic door lock price guide.

Using a door position switch with access control

If your access controller has a door sensor input, a door position switch lets it tell when a door has been left open or forced, and lets it relock the door as soon as it closes. Wire the contact to the controller's door sensor terminals as shown in its manual. Our access control system price guide covers complete door setups.

Fitting tips that prevent false alarms

  1. Fit the switch on the fixed frame and the magnet on the door, directly opposite each other.
  2. Keep the gap when the door is shut well inside the contact's rated distance, not at the limit. Doors drop and swell over time.
  3. Run the cable to the frame side, never to the moving door, and keep it in conduit.
  4. On metal doors, if detection is unreliable, fit both halves on thin non-metal spacers.
  5. Check the alignment again a few weeks after fitting, once the door has settled.

Wired contacts take their power from the alarm panel and need no battery or WiFi, so they keep working through load-shedding as long as the panel has a backup battery. For PIR motion sensors, beams and shock sensors, see our burglar alarm sensors guide.

Warranty: 1 year, not covering units that are burnt or physically damaged.

Frequently asked questions

What is a door position switch?

A door position switch, also called a door contact or magnetic reed switch, is a two-part sensor: the switch goes on the door frame and the magnet on the door. When the door opens, the magnet moves away and the switch tells the alarm panel or access controller that the door is open.

How much does a door position switch cost in Pakistan?

At ZZ Marts, wired door contacts cost Rs 400 to Rs 600 for standard and recessed models, Rs 1,499 to Rs 2,599 for heavy-duty metal door and rolling shutter models. Wireless door sensors cost Rs 1,049 for the W105 alarm panel and Rs 2,100 for a Tuya WiFi sensor.

Should I use an NC or NO door contact?

Use NC (normally closed) for alarms and security. The circuit is closed while the door is shut, so opening the door or cutting the cable both trigger the alarm. Use NO only when the device you are connecting asks for it.

Recessed or surface-mount door contact?

Recessed contacts are drilled into the door and frame, so they are hidden and hard to tamper with, which suits good wooden doors. Surface-mount contacts screw on in minutes and suit retrofits and doors you cannot drill.

Which door contact should I use on a metal door or shutter?

Use a contact built for metal, because steel weakens the magnet's effect on an ordinary contact. The DH-58 (Rs 1,499) is made for rolling shutters, and the DH-56 (Rs 1,499 to Rs 1,799) and DH-55 (Rs 1,799 to Rs 2,599) for metal doors and gates.

Is a door position switch the same as a lock status output?

No. A door position switch reports whether the door is shut. A magnetic lock with a status output reports whether the lock is holding. A door can be shut but not locked, so a fully monitored door uses both.
