1. PIR motion sensors
A PIR (passive infrared) sensor watches for the heat of a person moving across its view. It is the main "inside" sensor in almost every burglar alarm. Wired PIRs such as the Orion EL-55 and AD-500-11 connect to a zone on a wired panel. For a wireless system, use the wireless PIR made for the W105 panel. If you only want a phone alert at home, a Tuya WiFi PIR works without any panel.
Mounting tips: about 2.1 to 2.4 m high, in a corner, looking across the room so an intruder walks across its view rather than straight at it. Keep it away from windows, AC units, heaters and fans.
Looking for a motion sensor that switches a light on? That is a different product: see our motion sensor light switch guide.
2. Door and window contacts
A magnetic contact has two parts: a magnet on the door and a reed switch on the frame. When the door opens, the magnet moves away and the alarm triggers. Contacts are cheap, almost never give false alarms and catch an intruder at the point of entry, before they are inside.
- Surface contacts such as the DH-31 screw onto the door and frame. Quick to fit.
- Recessed contacts such as the DH-33 sit inside a hole drilled in the door and frame, so they are hidden and harder to tamper with.
- Heavy-duty contacts such as the DH-56 are made for steel doors, where a normal contact can be knocked off.
- Rolling shutter contacts such as the DH-58 fit at the bottom of a shop shutter and trigger as soon as it is lifted.
NC or NO? Most burglar alarm zones use NC (normally closed) contacts. Choose NO only if the device you are connecting to asks for it.
3. Infrared beam sensors
A beam sensor has a transmitter and a receiver facing each other. When someone breaks the invisible beam, the alarm triggers. Beams protect boundary walls, rooftops, long corridors and open yards, where a PIR would see too much harmless movement. The ABT-15 covers up to 15 m, enough for a corridor or a short wall. For long boundary walls, use a dual-beam sensor rated for the distance: 50 m, 100 m or 250 m. A dual beam only triggers when both beams are broken together, so a bird or a falling leaf is less likely to set it off. Beams are also used as safety sensors on automatic gates; see our loop detector and gate safety sensor guide.
4. Shock (vibration) sensors
A shock sensor triggers when it feels hammering, drilling or cutting. Fit one on a shop shutter, a safe, a cash counter or a shared wall, so the alarm sounds while someone is still trying to break in.
Which sensors does your building need?
| Building | Suggested sensors |
|---|---|
| Shop with a rolling shutter | Rolling door contact on the shutter, shock sensor on the shutter or wall, one PIR inside |
| House | Door contacts on main and back doors, PIRs in the lounge and corridors, a beam along the boundary wall or roof |
| Office | Door contact on the entrance, PIRs in each room, shock sensor on the cash room or safe |
| Warehouse | Heavy-duty contacts on steel doors, beams along aisles or walls, PIRs near the loading bay |
Connecting sensors to an alarm panel
Wired sensors connect to zones on a wired panel such as the 8-zone telephone line panel (Rs 17,499) or the GSM alarm control panel (Rs 22,499); check the panel's product page for how many wired zones it has. Most wired PIRs have six terminals: two for power, two for the alarm output and two for the tamper switch. Door contacts have two wires. Check your panel manual for end-of-line resistors before you finish the wiring. Then add a siren; our siren and bell guide explains 12V vs 24V.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a PIR motion sensor cost in Pakistan?
At ZZ Marts, wired alarm PIR sensors cost Rs 1,700 (Orion EL-55) and Rs 1,800 (AD-500-11), a wireless PIR for the W105 alarm panel costs Rs 1,800 and a Tuya WiFi PIR sensor costs Rs 3,500.
How much does a door contact sensor cost?
Wired magnetic door contacts cost from Rs 350 to Rs 550 for standard and recessed models, and from Rs 1,199 for heavy-duty metal door and rolling shutter contacts. A wireless door sensor for the W105 panel costs Rs 999 and a Tuya WiFi door sensor Rs 1,800.
How much does a beam sensor cost in Pakistan?
At ZZ Marts, the ABT-15 15-metre infrared beam costs Rs 2,550 and a single infrared beam Rs 4,800. Outdoor dual-beam sensors cost Rs 13,499 for 50 m, Rs 19,999 for 100 m and Rs 35,000 for 250 m.
What is the difference between a PIR sensor and a microwave sensor?
A PIR (passive infrared) sensor detects the body heat of a person moving across its view. A microwave sensor sends out a radio signal and detects movement from the reflection, so it can see through thin partitions and is more prone to false alarms. Dual-technology sensors combine both and only alarm when both trigger.
What is the difference between NC and NO door contacts?
NC (normally closed) contacts keep the circuit closed while the door is shut and open it when the door opens, which is what most burglar alarm zones expect, and a cut wire also triggers the alarm. NO (normally open) contacts do the opposite and are used with some relays, door bells and automation modules.
Which sensor is best for a shop shutter?
A rolling door magnetic contact such as the DH-58 on the shutter, plus a shock sensor on the shutter or wall to catch someone forcing or cutting it. Add a PIR inside the shop as a second layer.
What is a beam sensor used for?
An infrared beam sensor sends an invisible beam between a transmitter and a receiver. When someone walks through it, the alarm triggers. It is used along boundary walls, rooftops, open corridors and gates, where a PIR would see too much movement.
How do I wire a PIR motion sensor to an alarm panel?
Most wired alarm PIRs have six terminals: two for power from the panel, two for the alarm relay to a zone, and two for the tamper switch to the tamper loop. Follow the wiring label inside the sensor and the zone wiring in your panel manual, and use end-of-line resistors if the panel requires them.
Why does my PIR sensor give false alarms?
Common causes are pointing it at a window, AC, heater or fan that changes temperature quickly, pets moving through its view, insects inside the cover, and mounting it at the wrong height. Mount it about 2.1 to 2.4 m high, in a corner, facing across the room rather than at a window.
Can I use these sensors with a wireless alarm?
Wired sensors need a wired zone on the panel. For a wireless system, use sensors made for that panel, such as the wireless PIR for the W105 SOS alarm panel, or a Tuya WiFi PIR for app alerts.
