6x6 mm tactile push button switches

Quick answer: Tactile (tact) switches cost Rs 200 for a pack of 20 at ZZ Marts, in almost every size: 6×6 mm, 12×12 mm, 3×6 mm, slim 6×2 mm, side-push and SMD. Micro switches with plunger, lever and roller actuators, rated 16A 250VAC, cost Rs 250 for a pack of 5. Choose a tact switch by its footprint (6×6, 12×12 and so on), height, and whether your board is through-hole or SMD.

Tactile switch sizes and prices

All the tact switches below are Rs 200 for a pack of 20 unless the product page says otherwise.

Family Typical use Sizes in stock
6 × 6 mm, 4-pin through-hole The standard tact switch: remotes, control boards, Arduino and DIY projects 6×6×4 (SW-01), 6×6×5 (SW-02), 6×6×7.5 (SW-05), 6×6×9.5 (SW-08), 6×6×15 (SW-11)
6 × 6 mm, SMD Surface-mount boards and compact devices 6×6×2.7–3.4 (SW-13), 6×6×3.5 (SW-14), 6×6×5 (SW-03), 6×6×9.5 (SW-09)
12 × 12 mm Bigger buttons for panels, keypads and equipment you press often 12×12×4 (SW-37), 12×12×7 (SW-40), 12×12×12 (SW-46), 12×12×21 (SW-47III)
6 × 2 mm slim and side-push Narrow devices and edge buttons 6×2×4.2 (SW-16), 6×2×4.3 side push (SW-19), 6×2×9.5 side push (SW-23)
3 × 6 mm and mini SMD Earphones, small remotes and wearables 3×6×2.5 SMD, 3×6×4.3 (SW-51), 4×4 mm SMD series, 2×4×3.2 SMD (SW-65)

How to read a tact switch size

Sizes are written as width × length × height in millimetres. A 6×6×5 switch has a 6 mm square body and stands 5 mm tall including the button. Pick the footprint that matches your circuit board, then the height that lets the button reach through your case. Taller "long stem" versions such as 6×6×9.5 and 6×6×15 are for buttons that sit behind a thick front panel.

Through-hole or SMD?

Through-hole (THT) SMD (surface-mount)
Mounting Legs through the board, soldered underneath Soldered onto pads on top of the board
Strength Strong; good for buttons pressed often Lighter hold; fine for most devices
Hand soldering Easy Needs more care
Best for Repairs, DIY, Arduino, prototypes Compact products and machine assembly

Micro switches and limit switches

A micro switch is a snap-action switch that changes state with a small movement and can carry mains current. ZZ Marts stocks the SW-111 to SW-118 series, rated 16A 250VAC SPDT, at Rs 250 for a pack of 5: SW-111 push plunger, SW-112 short lever, SW-113 roller lever, SW-115 long lever, plus mini versions. With a lever or roller, a micro switch works as a limit switch: it detects when a door closes, a gate reaches its end stop, a lid opens or a machine part reaches position. SPDT means one common terminal with a normally open and a normally closed contact, so you can wire it either way.

Tactile switch vs push button vs micro switch

  • Tactile switch: tiny, low-current, mounted on a circuit board.
  • Micro switch: snap-action, carries mains current, used as a limit or safety switch.
  • Panel push button: mounted through a panel and wired with cables, for machines and control boxes. See our industrial push button guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of a tactile switch in Pakistan?
At ZZ Marts, tactile (tact) switches cost Rs 200 for a pack of 20 in most sizes, including 6×6 mm, 12×12 mm, 3×6 mm, SMD and side-push types. Micro switches with lever or roller actuators cost Rs 250 for a pack of 5.

What does 6×6×5 mean on a tact switch?
It is the size in millimetres: 6 mm wide, 6 mm long and 5 mm tall including the button. The height decides how far the button sticks out through your case or front panel.

What is the difference between SMD and through-hole tact switches?
Through-hole (THT) switches have legs that pass through holes in the circuit board and are soldered underneath, which makes them strong and easy to hand-solder. SMD (surface-mount) switches solder onto pads on the top of the board, which saves space and suits machine assembly.

What is the difference between a tactile switch and a micro switch?
A tactile switch is a small, low-current momentary button for circuit boards, with a light click you can feel. A micro switch is a larger snap-action switch that can carry mains current, such as 16A at 250VAC, and is used as a limit switch in machines, doors and appliances.

Why do some tact switches have 4 pins?
A 4-pin tact switch has two pairs of pins connected internally. Only two pins, one from each side, are needed for the switch; the other two add strength and make the board layout easier.

Can a micro switch be used as a limit switch?
Yes. Micro switches with lever or roller actuators are widely used as limit switches to detect a door, lid, gate or moving part reaching the end of its travel.
