Electric drop bolt or magnetic lock?
A drop bolt pins the door with a steel bolt and suits store rooms, offices and server rooms. A magnetic lock holds the door with a magnet, releases when power is cut and is the safer choice on exit routes.
A drop bolt needs careful alignment, because the bolt must drop into a hole in the strike plate. If it jams, check the alignment and the delay timer before assuming the lock is faulty. A magnetic lock is more forgiving because it holds by surface contact.
Electric locks and load shedding
