What an ATS does

With a manual changeover, someone has to go to the board and flip the switch every time the power goes, and flip it back when it returns. An ATS does this automatically. When your primary supply fails, it moves the load to your second source. When the primary supply comes back, it switches back automatically. In a country with regular load-shedding, that means no dark minutes waiting for someone to reach the board, and no forgetting to switch back and burning generator fuel for nothing.
