Motion detection that notifies your phone directly. This is a battery powered PIR motion sensor that connects straight to your WiFi and sends an alert through the Tuya or Smart Life app when it detects someone moving. There is no alarm panel, no hub, and no wiring involved. It is the simplest way to know that someone has entered a space while you are not there.

How PIR detection works. Passive infrared sensing detects the body heat of a person moving across its field of view. It emits nothing itself, which is why it uses very little power and works in complete darkness. That combination is what has made PIR the standard technology for intrusion detection for decades.

Who buys this rather than a full alarm. Homeowners wanting to know if someone enters a particular room, shopkeepers watching a store room or back area after closing, landlords monitoring a vacant property, parents wanting to know when children get home, and anyone in a rented property who cannot fit a wired system. It suits people who want awareness rather than a siren, and who would rather receive a notification than wake the neighbourhood.

Standalone sensor or part of an alarm, choosing honestly. This sends you a notification. It does not sound a siren, it does not deter an intruder in the moment, and if your phone is on silent you will not see it immediately. That is a genuine limitation and worth being clear about. If you want an intruder confronted with a loud siren and a system that alerts you even without internet, a proper alarm panel with wired or W105 compatible sensors is the correct choice, and we stock those. If you want to know what is happening in a space, this is exactly right and considerably cheaper.

Placement decides whether you like it or disable it. Mount it where an intruder must cross its field of view, typically covering a hallway, a landing, or the route from a door into the rest of the property. Aim it across a room rather than straight down the length someone would walk toward it, because PIR sensors detect movement across the beam far more reliably than movement directly at them.

Avoiding false alerts. Do not point it at a window with direct sunlight, at an air conditioner outlet, at a heater, or at curtains that move in a draught. All of these create the rapid temperature changes PIR responds to. If you have cats or dogs, discuss placement with us before installing, because an ordinary motion sensor will detect a pet crossing the room and you will receive alerts all night. Mounting height and angle solve more false alarm problems than any sensitivity setting.

Summer sensitivity, a genuine physics issue. When ambient temperature approaches body temperature, as it does through a Pakistani summer, the heat difference PIR relies on narrows and detection sensitivity naturally falls. This is normal behaviour rather than a fault. Positioning the sensor so people cross its field of view, rather than walk straight toward it, noticeably improves detection in hot conditions.

Battery life and what drains it. A sensor covering a busy hallway reports far more often than one watching a store room entered twice a week, and each report uses power. Expect months rather than weeks under normal use, with a low battery warning in the app. Keep a spare cell for anything monitoring a space that matters.

Internet, and the honest caveat. The sensor detects locally regardless, but the notification travels through your router and out to the internet. During load shedding, if your router is off, alerts will not reach you until power returns. For a sensor whose entire purpose is notification, that is a meaningful gap. A small UPS on the router closes it inexpensively and is worth considering.

Automations worth setting up. Because it is Tuya compatible, motion can trigger other devices rather than only notifying you. Common setups include switching on a light when someone enters at night, sounding a Tuya siren if motion is detected while you have set the system to away mode, and turning on a smart plug connected to a lamp to make an empty house look occupied.

Does it work without internet? It continues detecting, but phone notifications need your connection to be working.

Will it detect my pet? Yes, ordinary PIR sensors detect animals. Tell us about pets before you order and we will advise on placement or alternatives.

Can it sound an alarm? Only by triggering a separate Tuya siren or smart switch through an app automation. It has no built in siren.

How many do I need? One per route an intruder must cross, rather than one per room. Covering the hallway an intruder has to pass through beats covering three bedrooms they might not enter.
