A drop bolt you can still open when the power is out. This 12V electric bolt lock includes a key cylinder, which means the bolt can be withdrawn mechanically with a key regardless of whether the lock has power. For a fail secure bolt in a country with routine load shedding, that override is not a luxury feature. It is often the difference between a workable installation and a door nobody can open.

Why the key cylinder matters more here than elsewhere. A standard drop bolt stays locked when power fails. That is excellent for security and a genuine problem the first time an outage coincides with someone needing to get through the door. Without an override, your options are a backup power supply or waiting for the electricity to return. The key cylinder removes that dependency entirely, which is why we recommend this version for any door where being locked out would matter.

Where this version earns its cost. Shop shutters and side doors, store rooms holding stock you may need at short notice, offices where staff arrive before the generator is running, godowns, and any door that is the only practical route into a space. It is also the sensible choice where the door is used by people who would have no way of resolving a power related lockout themselves.

Drop bolt or magnetic lock. A magnetic lock releases the moment power is lost, making it appropriate for escape routes but useless for keeping a door secure through load shedding. A drop bolt physically pins the door with a steel bolt and stays locked without power, which is stronger against forcing. This version adds the key override so you retain access without giving up that security. Tell us how the door is used and we will recommend honestly between the two.

Key management, which people underestimate. The override key is now part of your security. Keep it somewhere accessible but not beside the door it opens, and decide deliberately who holds a copy. A key hanging on a hook next to the lock defeats the purpose of having a lock at all. For business premises, keep a record of who has been issued one.

Timer delay, and the fault that is not a fault. Drop bolts include an adjustable delay before the bolt drops, giving the door time to close fully and settle before the bolt engages. Set too short, the bolt fires while the door is still swinging and jams against the plate or misses the hole. A large share of complaints that a bolt lock is defective turn out to be a delay set too tight. Set it generously and the lock behaves properly.

Alignment matters more than with a magnet. A magnetic lock tolerates small variation because it holds by contact. A bolt must physically enter a hole. Fit the receiving plate so the bolt lands centred rather than at the edge of the opening, and allow for the fact that doors settle on their hinges and frames move with heat and humidity through the Pakistani year. A bolt that starts grinding or failing to throw is nearly always an alignment issue, not a failed lock.

What the complete installation needs. The bolt is one part. You also need a controller such as a keypad or card reader, an exit button inside, a power supply rated for the lock, and mounting brackets suited to your door. Glass doors need a U bracket or patch fitting. Ordering these together avoids the familiar situation of an electrician on site with a missing component.

Is this suitable for a fire exit? A fail secure bolt on an escape route needs an emergency break glass release in addition to the key override, since occupants cannot be expected to find a key during an evacuation. Tell us if the door is on an escape route and we will specify it properly.

Can I open it from outside with the key? The cylinder allows mechanical withdrawal of the bolt. Confirm the mounting orientation with us for your specific door so the key is accessible from the side you need.

Does it still work normally with power? Yes. The key is an override, not the primary method. Day to day it operates from your access control system exactly like a standard bolt.

Why does the bolt sometimes not enter cleanly? Alignment or too short a timer delay. Both are adjustable and neither means the lock is faulty.
