How it works

The ZKTeco X3 is mounted on the wall beside the door at hand height. Users open the door with a registered fingerprint, a PIN on the touch keypad, or a MIFARE card. The X3 then releases the drop bolt for a few seconds so the door can be pushed open, and the bolt drops back into place when the door closes.

The drop bolt lock sits in the top of the door frame, with its strike plate on the top edge of the door. The lock runs on 12V and has a status light, so it is easy to see at a glance whether the door is locked.

Watch it work

A MIFARE card tapped on the ZKTeco X3 releases the drop bolt, and the door opens.

Why a drop bolt lock

A drop bolt lock drops a solid steel bolt into the door, which holds it firmly shut. It is also fail-safe: when power is cut, the bolt retracts and the door opens, so nobody can be locked in during an emergency. If the door must stay locked during load-shedding, power the terminal and lock from a backup supply such as the ZZ-PS-5A 5A UPS. See our access control system price guide for other lock types.

Planning door access for your home, office or shop?

Choose how people will get in. Fingerprints cannot be lent or lost; PIN codes are easy for visitors; cards suit staff who change often. The ZKTeco X3 handles all three, so you do not have to pick just one.

Always fit an exit button. People inside should never need a fingerprint or card to leave.

Decide what should happen in a power cut. A fail-safe lock opens; a backup power supply keeps it locked.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a fingerprint door access system cost in Lahore?
On this DHA Phase 2 job the equipment was a ZKTeco X3 fingerprint terminal (Rs 8,500), a 12V drop bolt lock (Rs 4,299), a stainless steel exit button (Rs 699) and a 12V 1.67A power adapter (Rs 300), and installation was Rs 3,000: Rs 16,798 in total at listed prices.

Can the ZKTeco X3 open a door with a card?
Yes. The ZKTeco X3 reads MIFARE (13.56 MHz) cards. On this installation the door opens with a fingerprint, a PIN code or a MIFARE card.

What happens to a drop bolt lock in a power cut?
The drop bolt lock used here is fail-safe: it unlocks when power is lost, so nobody is trapped. To keep the door locked during load-shedding, run the lock and reader from a backup power supply such as the ZZ-PS-5A UPS.

How do people get out of a door with access control?
A push-to-exit button is fitted on the inside. Pressing it releases the lock for a few seconds, so nobody needs a fingerprint or card to leave.

Does ZZ Marts install access control in DHA Lahore?
Yes. ZZ Marts has a store in Garhi Shahu, Lahore, and installs access control, CCTV and alarm systems across Lahore, including DHA.
