Choosing a tact or micro switch
Tact switches have three dimensions, and the third is the one people get wrong
They are quoted as width × length × height in millimetres, as in 6×6×7mm. Height sets how far the button protrudes through the panel, so a board that fits perfectly can still leave the cap sunk out of reach. Measure the footprint on the board and the height you need to reach the front panel.
Through-hole or SMD
Through-hole (DIP) tact switches have legs that pass through the board and are soldered underneath; they are the easy choice for repairs and hand soldering. SMD switches sit flat on pads on the surface of the board and are what most modern remotes and control boards use. Match the type on the board you are repairing.
2-pin and 4-pin are not interchangeable
A 4-pin tact switch has two pairs of pins joined internally; a 2-pin switch has one contact pair. Check the pin count and spacing before you order.
Micro switches are rated for current, not for feel
The 15A and 16A micro switches here suit gates, machinery and limit-switch duty. Lever and roller-lever versions trip from a wider approach angle, which is what you want when whatever presses them does not arrive from exactly the same place each time.
