The standard 380kg maglock, without the extras you may not need. This is the straightforward two wire electromagnetic lock rated at 380kg holding force. It holds the door while powered and releases the moment power is cut. If you want maximum holding force on a main entrance without paying for status monitoring you will never use, this is the version to buy.
How this differs from our five wire model. Both deliver the same 380kg holding force and both fail safe. The five wire version adds a status output so your controller knows whether the lock is genuinely engaged, which suits server rooms, cash offices, and anywhere you need proof the door locked. This standard version does the locking job identically but reports nothing back. For the majority of doors, including most main entrances, shop doors, and office entrances, that feedback is unnecessary and the simpler lock is the sensible purchase.
Where 380kg is the right rating. Main building entrances, heavy timber doors, double doors where each leaf carries a lock, and any door likely to be pushed or pulled hard. If the door is your primary physical barrier rather than an internal divider, this rating earns its place. For internal office doors, glass partitions, and low traffic rooms, our 180kg and 280kg locks are more appropriate and cost less.
Double doors need one lock per leaf. This catches people out regularly. Two doors meeting in the middle cannot be secured by a single larger magnet; each leaf needs its own lock and armature plate, because each moves independently. Budget for two locks and a power supply rated for both when specifying a double entrance.
Fail safe behaviour and load shedding. Cutting power releases the lock instantly, which is exactly what makes maglocks appropriate for escape routes and exactly why load shedding will open the door. Decide at specification stage whether the door must stay secure through an outage. If it must, budget for a backup supply or UPS. If it is an escape route, the fail safe behaviour is the feature rather than the problem.
Brackets decide whether installation goes smoothly. The lock mounts to the frame and the armature plate to the door, but the fitting depends on your door type. Inward opening doors generally need an L bracket, frameless glass needs a U bracket clamping the glass, and outward opening or narrow aluminium doors each need specific fittings. More installations stall over a missing bracket than over anything else. Send us a photograph of the door and frame and we will supply the correct bracket alongside the lock.
Continuous current draw. A magnetic lock consumes power the entire time the door is locked, unlike a bolt lock which draws only when operating. Size the power supply for that continuous load, and remember the figures multiply across several doors. Undersized supplies cause intermittent, hard to trace faults.
Wiring the exit button as NC. Since the lock releases when the circuit opens, exit buttons and release devices are wired normally closed. Reversing this gives a door that never locks or never releases, and it is the most common wiring mistake on maglock installations. Confirm contact types before wiring, especially when a keypad, exit button, and break glass release all share one door.
Fire alarm connection on escape routes. Where the door forms part of an escape route, wire the lock so a fire alarm activation cuts power and releases it independently of the access control system. This is a basic safety requirement and is frequently missed when fire and access systems are installed separately. We supply both and can ensure they interface correctly.
Keeping it working. Wipe the magnet face and armature plate clean periodically. Dust, grit, or paint between the surfaces reduces holding force more than people expect. Check the armature plate remains flush and tight, since a loose plate is the usual cause of a lock that feels weaker than its rating.
Should I buy this or the five wire version? Buy this one unless you specifically need lock status feedback to a controller. Most doors do not.
Is 380kg too much for my door? Possibly. Tell us the door material and width and we will tell you honestly whether 180kg or 280kg would serve you better and cost less.
Will it hold a glass door? Yes, with the correct U bracket. Confirm glass thickness with us before ordering.
What happens in a power cut? The door releases. Fit a backup supply if it must remain locked.
