Access Control Systems in Pakistan: The Complete Buyer’s Guide (2026)

28/07/2026 Reviews & Testimonials

Whether you run a shop in Saddar, manage an office in Gulberg, or just want to stop handing out spare keys at home, an access control system in Pakistan is the simplest way to control exactly who opens your door — and to know when. Instead of a metal key that can be copied or lost, people unlock the door with a card, a PIN, a fingerprint, or their phone, and every entry can be logged.

This guide explains how these systems work, the parts you actually pay for, realistic price factors in the Pakistani market, and how to pick the right setup for a home, office, glass-front shop, or factory. Everything here is available at ZZ Marts, with stores in Karachi and Lahore.

What is an access control system?

An access control system is a set of connected devices that decide whether a door should open. The flow is always the same: a person presents a credential (a card, code, fingerprint, or app), a controller checks whether that credential is allowed, and if it is, the controller releases the electric lock so the door opens. To leave, the person presses an exit button.

Because the “key” is now data, you can add or remove users in seconds, give the cleaner access only during the day, and see a record of who came and went — none of which an ordinary lock can do. That is why offices, factories, clinics, apartment blocks, and glass-front retail shops across Pakistan are moving to access control.

Types of access control systems

Systems are usually grouped by how people prove who they are:

  • RFID card & keypad: The most popular office setup. Users tap an RFID card or key fob, or enter a PIN on a password keypad. Affordable and easy to manage.
  • Biometric (fingerprint): Users are identified by fingerprint, so nothing can be shared or lost. Common where attendance tracking matters too.
  • Smart / app-based: A smart digital lock that opens by fingerprint, code, card, or phone app — ideal for homes and small offices.
  • Touchless / no-touch: A hygienic option where the door releases when you wave a hand near an infrared sensor — no shared surface to touch. More on this below.

Systems are also either standalone (one door, controller built into the keypad) or networked (many doors managed from one computer). Most homes and single shops need only a standalone setup.

The core components — what you actually buy

An access control system is a kit of parts. Understanding each one makes it far easier to budget and to avoid buying something that won’t fit your door.

1. Controller / keypad

The “brain” that stores users and decides who gets in. For most Pakistani offices this is a combined RFID + password keypad, or a rugged metal keypad for outdoor gates and high-traffic doors.

2. Card reader & credentials

If you need a separate reader (for example a USB desk reader to enroll cards), a USB RFID reader handles it. Your users then carry credentials: 125 kHz proximity cards, key fobs, or long-range UHF sticker tags for vehicle gates.

3. The electric lock (choose one to match your door)

This is the part people most often get wrong. Match the lock to the door:

  • Electromagnetic lock (maglock): A powerful electromagnet that holds the door shut. Choose the holding force for your door — a 280 kg maglock suits most single doors, while a 380 kg maglock is better for heavy or high-security doors. Frameless glass, out-swinging, or narrow doors also need a Z&L mounting bracket so the lock has a surface to grip.
  • Drop bolt lock: A bolt drops into the frame to lock. The go-to choice for frameless glass doors — see the general-purpose 12V drop bolt lock.
  • Electric bolt lock: A neat concealed bolt, often with a status output so the system knows if the door is really locked, like this 5-wire electric bolt lock.

4. Exit button (including no-touch)

Inside the door, a button releases the lock so people can leave. A simple stainless steel exit button works everywhere. For clinics, offices, and any shared entrance, a no-touch (touchless) exit button lets people leave by simply waving a hand near the sensor — more hygienic and increasingly requested since 2020.

5. Power supply & wiring

A 12V DC power supply (often with battery backup) runs the lock and controller. Most kits use simple low-voltage wiring, so installation is straightforward for any electrician.

Access control system price in Pakistan

There is no single “access control price” because the total depends on which parts you choose. Your cost is driven by four things: the type of lock (a drop bolt for glass costs more than a basic maglock), the controller (a plain keypad is cheaper than a fingerprint unit), the number of credentials (cards/fobs) you need, and whether you add a power supply with battery backup.

As a rough guide for the Pakistani market, a basic single-door RFID + keypad kit with a maglock and exit button sits at the entry level, a glass-door drop-bolt setup is mid-range, and a fingerprint or app-based smart-lock system is at the higher end. Because prices change with brand and stock, the most reliable figures are always on the live product pages — browse current pricing in the access control category and the magnetic locks section.

How to choose the right system

  • Home main door: A smart fingerprint lock is the easiest upgrade — no separate keypad, maglock, or wiring needed.
  • Office (wooden/metal door): RFID + keypad controller, a 280 kg maglock, and an exit button. Add a no-touch exit button for shared entrances.
  • Glass-front shop: A glass-door drop bolt (or a maglock with a Z&L bracket), keypad, and a touchless exit button.
  • Factory / warehouse gate: A weatherproof metal keypad, a heavy 380 kg maglock, and long-range UHF tags for vehicles.

Installation basics

Most single-door systems follow the same wiring idea: the power supply feeds the controller and the lock; the controller releases the lock when a valid card/PIN is read; and the exit button releases the lock from inside. It is low-voltage work that any competent electrician can complete in an afternoon. If you are pairing access control with a smart lock, our step-by-step Tuya smart lock installation guide walks through the setup, and if you want intrusion alerts too, see the wireless burglar alarm system guide.

Frequently asked questions

How does an access control system work?

A person presents a card, PIN, or fingerprint. The controller checks whether that credential is allowed and, if it is, releases the electric lock so the door opens. To leave, they press an exit button.

Which is better — a magnetic lock or a drop bolt?

A magnetic lock (maglock) is simplest for standard wooden or metal doors. A drop bolt is the better choice for frameless glass doors because the bolt drops neatly into the frame or floor.

What is a no-touch exit button?

It is an exit button with an infrared sensor: you wave your hand near it and the door releases without touching any surface. It is more hygienic, which is why clinics and shared offices prefer it.

Do I need a Z&L bracket for my magnetic lock?

You need a Z&L bracket when the door is frameless glass, opens outward, or has no flat surface for the lock’s armature plate. The bracket gives the maglock a proper mounting point.

Can I use RFID cards and a PIN together?

Yes. Most keypad controllers accept both, so you can issue cards to staff and keep a PIN as a backup — or require both for higher security.

How much does an access control system cost in Pakistan?

It depends on the lock, controller, and number of cards. A basic single-door keypad-and-maglock kit is the entry point, glass-door drop-bolt setups are mid-range, and fingerprint or app-based smart systems cost more. Check the product pages for current prices.
