If your maglock arrived and will not mount, this is usually what is missing. A ZL bracket set is the mounting hardware that lets a 280kg magnetic lock fit an inward opening door. It is bought separately from the lock, which is why so many installations stall halfway through the day with the electrician waiting and the lock unusable.

What the Z and the L actually do. The set is two pieces. The L bracket mounts the lock body to the door frame, holding it in the correct position and orientation. The Z bracket carries the armature plate on the door leaf, projecting it so the two faces meet flush when the door closes. Together they solve the geometry problem of an inward opening door, where the lock and plate would otherwise never align.

When you need a ZL set rather than something else. Use it for inward opening doors with a frame. If your door is frameless glass, you need a U bracket instead, which clamps the glass rather than screwing into a frame. If your door opens outward, tell us, because the mounting differs again. Getting this wrong is the single most common reason a maglock order has to be supplemented afterwards.

Match the bracket to the lock rating. This set is sized for 280kg locks. A bracket for a lighter or heavier lock will not fit correctly, since the lock body dimensions differ between ratings. Order the bracket that matches your lock, and if you are ordering both together we will supply the matching pair automatically.

Alignment is what makes the lock hold. The magnet face and armature plate must sit flush and parallel when the door closes. A bracket fitted slightly out of true leaves a gap, and even a small air gap reduces holding force considerably, which people then mistake for a faulty lock. Fit carefully, close the door, and check the two faces meet cleanly across their whole surface before finishing.

Let the armature plate float slightly. The armature plate is designed to have a small amount of movement so it can self align against the magnet as the door closes. Do not overtighten it solid. A plate bolted rigidly cannot compensate for a door that has settled, and it will gradually lose contact as the door ages.

Fix into something solid. The bracket is only as strong as what it is screwed to. On a hollow or lightweight frame, use appropriate fixings that spread the load, or reinforce the frame. A 280kg lock on a bracket fixed into thin material is a 280kg lock that comes off the wall.

Can I use a 180kg bracket on a 280kg lock? No. The lock body dimensions differ between ratings, so order the matching set.

Does the lock include a bracket? Not usually. Brackets are ordered separately according to the door type, which is why we ask about the door before dispatching a lock.
