Access control systems in Pakistan start at Rs 2,200 for an RFID keypad at ZZ Marts, Rs 4,000 for a ZKTeco SA40, and Rs 7,500–8,500 for fingerprint readers. A basic complete door costs about Rs 5,150; a fingerprint office door with battery backup about Rs 24,100. Buying guide
How to specify an access controlled door
A door needs four things, and people forget the third
A reader or keypad to identify the person; a lock to hold the door; an exit device to get out; and a power supply sized for all of it. Buying a fingerprint reader and discovering you have no exit button and no 12V supply is the most common mistake we see.
Choose the lock by door type, not by price
Magnetic locks hold with an electromagnet and suit glass and aluminium doors — strong, no cutting needed, but they fail open when power is lost. Electric bolt locks drop a pin into the frame, suit wooden and metal doors, and can be specified fail-secure. Which behaviour you want is a fire-safety decision as much as a security one.
Access method affects daily friction more than security
RFID cards are cheap and fast but get shared and lost. PIN keypads need no hardware per user but codes get passed around. Fingerprint is hardest to share and best for attendance, though it struggles with wet, dusty or damaged hands — a genuine issue on industrial sites.
Exit devices matter for safety and regulations
A standard push-to-exit button suits most doors. Touchless infrared buttons are now preferred in clinics and offices. Break-glass emergency releases are the right call on any door forming part of a fire escape route.
Plan the power supply first
Most access hardware runs on 12V or 24V DC. Add up the current draw of lock, reader and sensors, then choose a supply with headroom and battery backup.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an access control system cost in Pakistan?
At ZZ Marts, RFID keypads start at Rs 2,200 and fingerprint readers cost Rs 7,500–8,500. A basic complete door — keypad, 60kg maglock, exit button and 12V adapter — costs about Rs 5,150. A fingerprint office door with a 280kg maglock, bracket, exit button and battery-backed UPS costs about Rs 24,100.
What is the difference between a magnetic lock and an electric bolt lock?
A magnetic lock uses an electromagnet against a metal plate, ideal for glass and aluminium doors, but releases when power is lost. An electric bolt lock throws a pin into the frame, suits wooden and metal doors, and can stay locked during a power cut.
Do I need an exit button if I have a fingerprint reader?
Almost always yes. The reader controls entry; something has to release the door from inside.
Can access control work without electricity?
Not by itself. Most systems run on 12V or 24V DC, so a backup battery or UPS is strongly recommended in Pakistan.
Which is better for staff attendance — fingerprint or RFID card?
Fingerprint, in most cases. Cards get passed to colleagues, which defeats the purpose of attendance tracking.
