CCTV Installation Cost in Pakistan: What Actually Drives the Price

20/07/2026 Reviews & Testimonials

Ask three installers what a CCTV system costs in Pakistan and you will get three very different numbers, often for what sounds like the same job. That is not usually dishonesty. It is because a CCTV quote bundles together at least six separate things, and quotes rarely break them out. This guide explains what actually drives the price so you can compare offers properly, ask better questions, and avoid paying twice for the same installation.

The six things you are actually paying for

Every CCTV quote is made up of cameras, a recorder, storage, power supply, cabling and connectors, and labour. Change any one of these and the total moves. When two quotes differ sharply, the difference is almost always hiding in storage, cabling, or labour rather than in the cameras themselves.

1. Cameras: the choice that drives everything else

Camera choice sets the cost of everything downstream. Resolution is the obvious variable, but the bigger cost drivers are less visible. Higher resolution cameras need more storage and a more capable recorder, so upgrading resolution raises three line items, not one.

Analogue or IP. Analogue HD cameras run on coaxial cable to a DVR and remain the economical choice for straightforward installations. IP cameras run on network cable to an NVR, support higher resolutions, and allow a single cable to carry both data and power. IP costs more up front but is easier to expand later.

Indoor or outdoor. Outdoor cameras need weather-rated housings that survive monsoon rain, summer heat, and dust. Fitting an indoor camera under a shade to save money is a false economy that usually fails within a season.

Night performance. Most incidents happen at night, so infrared range matters more than daytime resolution. A camera with a stated 20 metre IR range will not usefully cover a 40 metre yard. Ask about IR distance, not just megapixels.

2. The recorder, and why channel count matters

Your DVR or NVR is sized in channels, meaning how many cameras it can accept. Buying a 4-channel recorder for four cameras leaves no room to expand, and adding a fifth camera later means replacing the recorder entirely. If there is any chance of expansion, an 8-channel unit costs modestly more now and saves considerably later. This is one of the most common regrets we hear at our counters.

3. Storage: the line item most often underquoted

Storage determines how many days of footage you keep before it overwrites, and it is where cheap quotes quietly cut corners. A system that retains three days is close to useless, because incidents are frequently discovered a week later when someone notices stock missing or a vehicle damaged.

Retention depends on camera count, resolution, frame rate, and whether recording is continuous or motion-triggered. Motion-triggered recording stretches storage substantially and is appropriate for most premises. The question to ask every installer is simple: how many days of footage will this system keep with all cameras running? If they cannot answer, the quote is not complete.

4. Power, and the load shedding problem nobody quotes for

This is the single biggest gap we see in CCTV quotes in Pakistan. A system without backup power stops recording the moment the electricity goes. Anyone who understands that pattern knows exactly when the cameras are blind.

A UPS sized to run the recorder and cameras through a normal outage is not an optional upgrade; it is the difference between a system that works and one that works only when nothing is likely to happen. Ask explicitly whether backup power is included. In most low quotes, it is not.

5. Cabling and connectors: where cheap quotes really cut

Cable is invisible once installed, which is exactly why it is where corners get cut. Thin, low-copper-content cable causes voltage drop over distance, producing cameras that flicker, drop out at night when infrared draws more current, or fail within a year. Replacing buried or conduited cable costs far more than using proper cable the first time.

Ask what cable is being used and whether runs will be in conduit. Exposed cable running down an outside wall is both a durability problem and a security weakness, since anyone can cut it.

6. Labour, and what “installation included” actually covers

Labour varies with building type far more than with camera count. Running cable through an existing plastered building is slow work. A new construction where conduit is already in place is quick. A multi-storey building, a factory with long external runs, or a site needing scaffolding all cost more than the same camera count in a small house.

Clarify whether the quote includes mobile app configuration, staff training, and a warranty visit if something fails, or whether those are billed separately later.

How to compare two quotes properly

Put both on the same sheet and compare line by line: camera count and type, resolution, IR range, recorder channels, storage capacity and resulting retention days, backup power, cable specification, conduit or surface mounting, warranty length, and what happens if a camera fails in month four. When you do this, the cheaper quote very often turns out to be a smaller system rather than a better price. That is the whole point of the exercise.

Red flags worth walking away from

Be cautious with a quote that gives one total with no breakdown, cannot state how many days of footage will be retained, does not mention backup power at all, offers no written warranty, or pressures you to decide immediately. Also be wary of unusually cheap “full package” offers that turn out to include the lowest resolution cameras, minimal storage, and no UPS. The equipment is not fake, but the system will not do what you assumed it would.

Where you can genuinely save money

Cover the entrances properly and skip the decorative extras. Four well-placed cameras covering every entry point beat eight badly placed ones covering the same wall from different angles. Use motion-triggered recording rather than continuous to stretch storage. Buy the recorder with headroom once instead of replacing it in a year. And buy hardware and installation from people who will still answer the phone in six months, because a system nobody supports becomes an expensive ornament.

Common questions

How many cameras does a typical house need? Cover the main gate, the entrance door, and any accessible side or rear approach. For most homes that means three to four cameras. Adding more without covering an entry point adds cost without adding security.

Do I need internet for CCTV to work? No. Recording is local to the DVR or NVR and continues without internet. You only need a connection to view footage remotely on your phone.

Will my cameras keep recording during load shedding? Only if the system is on backup power. Without a UPS, recording stops with the supply. Always confirm this is included.

How long should footage be kept? Two weeks is a sensible minimum for most homes and shops, because incidents are often noticed days after they happen.

Can I install CCTV myself? A small wireless system, yes. A wired multi-camera installation involves cable routing, drilling, and power work that is usually faster and neater done by an installer.

Is analogue or IP better value? For a straightforward small installation on a budget, analogue HD remains good value. If you want higher resolution, simpler cabling, or plan to expand, IP is worth the additional cost.

Getting a straight answer on price

Because cost depends so heavily on your building, camera count, and retention requirement, any single figure quoted online is close to meaningless. What we can do is give you a properly itemised list for your specific situation.

ZZ Marts has supplied CCTV, access control, and security equipment across Pakistan since 2005, trading as Zam Zam Traders. Tell us your building type, how many entry points you need covered, and how many days of footage you want to keep, and we will tell you what the system actually needs, including the backup power and cable specification that cheaper quotes leave out. Visit our Karachi store in Saddar or our Lahore store in Garhi Shahu, or message us on WhatsApp with a photograph of your premises.
