A drop bolt built for frameless glass doors. This 12V electric drop bolt secures a glass door by driving a solid steel bolt into a receiving plate, rather than holding it magnetically. It is designed for frameless and semi frameless glass, which is the most common commercial door type on Pakistani shopfronts, showrooms, and office receptions.
Drop bolt or magnetic lock, the decision that matters most. This is the question worth settling before you order anything. A magnetic lock holds the door with an electromagnet and releases the instant power is lost, which makes it the safer choice on escape routes. A drop bolt physically pins the door with a steel bolt and, in its standard form, stays locked when power fails. That makes it the stronger option against forcing, and the wrong option for a door people must escape through unless you fit an emergency release alongside. Why glass doors often suit a bolt rather than a magnet. A magnetic lock needs enough flat surface to mount a substantial plate. Narrow glass door rails and slim aluminium top sections frequently do not offer it. A drop bolt needs far less mounting area, which is why it is so often the practical answer on frameless glass and narrow framed shopfront doors where a maglock simply will not fit neatly.
Fail secure behaviour and load shedding. Because a standard drop bolt stays locked without power, load shedding will not release your door, which is exactly what you want for a shop secured overnight. The flip side matters just as much: if this is your only exit and power is out, nobody gets through it without a manual override or an emergency break glass release. For any door on an escape route, plan that release at specification stage rather than discovering the problem later.
The timer delay, and why bolts get blamed unfairly. Most drop bolts include an adjustable delay of a few seconds before the bolt drops. That delay exists so the door has time to close fully and settle before the bolt tries to engage. Without it, the bolt fires while the door is still swinging and either jams against the receiving plate or misses the hole entirely. A very large share of complaints that a drop bolt is faulty turn out to be a delay set too short. Set it generously and the lock behaves.
Alignment is everything with a bolt lock. Unlike a magnet, which tolerates small variations, a bolt must physically enter a hole. Fit the receiving plate so the bolt lands centred in its hole, not at the edge. Glass doors swing freely and settle over time, and temperature swings across the Pakistani year move door frames noticeably. A lock installed with no tolerance in spring will start grinding or failing to throw by peak summer. If a bolt starts binding, check alignment before assuming the lock has failed.
Mounting on glass. Frameless glass needs a U bracket or patch fitting to carry the lock, since you cannot drill toughened glass on site. Glass thickness determines which fitting suits, so measure it or send us a photograph of the door edge before ordering. This is the most common reason a glass door installation stalls partway through.
What else the installation needs. The bolt is one component. A working door also needs a controller such as an access keypad or card reader, an exit button on the inside, a power supply rated for the lock, and the correct mounting fitting for your glass. Buying these as a matched set avoids the very common situation of an electrician arriving to find one part missing. We can supply the complete kit.
Do I need an emergency release? If the door is on an escape route, yes. Ask us about break glass releases and manual override versions.

What happens in a power cut? A standard drop bolt stays locked. That is good for overnight security and a problem for egress, which is why escape route doors need an emergency release.
Why does my bolt jam sometimes? Almost always alignment or too short a timer delay rather than a faulty lock. Both are adjustable.
