Description

  • The Tuya WiFi Door Sensor (Standalone) is a wireless smart contact sensor designed for reliable home and business security. It detects door or window movement using magnetic separation and sends instant alerts through the Tuya / Smart Life app, allowing users to monitor entry points in real time.

Unlike Zigbee sensors, this sensor connects directly to WiFi, meaning no hub or controller is needed—making it ideal for cost-effective standalone smart security installations. The Tuya mobile app provides access to history logs, remote monitoring, and automation settings to link with other smart devices such as alarms, lights, or cameras.

This WiFi door sensor installs easily using adhesive tape, requires no wiring, and is powered by batteries for long-term use. It is suitable for homes, apartments, shops, storerooms, showrooms, and office doors or cabinets requiring tamper-free access monitoring.

What this sensor does. This is a wireless door and window sensor that tells your phone the moment a door, window, cupboard, or shutter is opened. It pairs with the Tuya and Smart Life apps, which is the same platform used by most smart switches, plugs, and cameras sold in Pakistan, so it sits alongside devices you may already own rather than needing its own separate app.

How it works. The unit comes in two parts. The sensor body contains a reed switch and fixes to the door frame; the smaller magnet fixes to the door itself. While the door is closed the magnet keeps the reed switch held in one state. Open the door and the magnet moves away, the switch changes state, and the sensor reports it. There are no moving parts to wear out, which is why magnetic reed contacts have remained the standard for door monitoring for decades.

Who buys it and why. The most common uses we see are parents wanting to know when children arrive home from school, shopkeepers wanting an alert if a store room or shutter opens after closing, households monitoring a main gate or a rarely used back door, and offices watching a stock room or server room door. It is also popular for cupboards and drawers holding medicines, documents, or cash.

What you actually receive on your phone. An instant push notification when the door opens, and a running history of open and close events with times. That history is often more useful than the alerts themselves, because it lets you check afterwards whether a door was opened while you were out and exactly when.

Automations worth setting up. Because it speaks Tuya, the sensor can trigger other devices rather than only notifying you. Common setups include switching on a light when a door opens at night, turning on an exhaust fan when a bathroom door opens, and sounding a Tuya siren if a door opens while you have the system set to away mode. If you already own Tuya smart switches, this sensor turns them into a basic security system without any wiring.

Wireless or wired, which should you choose? This is the decision worth thinking about. A wireless sensor like this needs no cabling, installs in two minutes with adhesive, and can be moved or taken with you if you rent. A wired magnetic contact connects to an alarm panel, never needs batteries, and keeps working with no dependence on WiFi or internet. Use wireless where you want convenience and phone alerts. Use wired where the sensor is part of a security system that must work regardless of connectivity. Many premises sensibly use both.

Battery life and what affects it. The sensor runs on a battery for an extended period under normal use. A door opened twenty times a day drains it faster than a store room opened twice a week, simply because each event uses power to transmit. The app warns you when the battery is low. Keep a spare cell for any door that matters.

Installation in two minutes. Clean both surfaces first, since dust and grease are the usual reason adhesive pads fail after a few weeks. Fix the sensor body to the frame and the magnet to the door, keeping the two aligned and within the rated gap when the door is closed, typically a small number of millimetres. On metal doors and shutters, if reporting becomes unreliable, mount the sensor on a thin non-metallic spacer, because metal can interfere with the magnetic field.

Internet and load shedding. Worth being clear about: the sensor itself is battery powered and keeps detecting during an outage, but the notification travels through your router and the internet. If your router is off during load shedding, alerts will not reach your phone until power returns. If alerts genuinely matter to you, a small UPS on the router is an inexpensive fix.

WiFi coverage. The sensor needs a usable 2.4GHz signal at its mounting position. Most smart devices do not connect on 5GHz, so if your router broadcasts a combined band you may need to separate them briefly during pairing. A back gate at the end of a long compound may sit outside reliable range, in which case a mesh node or extender solves it.

How many should you buy? Cover entry points rather than every door. For a typical home that means the main gate, the front door, and any accessible rear or side door. Sensors on internal doors add notifications without adding security.

Does it work without internet? The sensor continues detecting and logging locally, but push notifications to your phone require your connection to be up.

Can it trigger an alarm? Yes, when paired with a Tuya compatible siren or smart switch through an automation in the Smart Life app.

Will it work on a metal shutter? Usually yes, though metal can affect the magnetic field. Use a non-metallic spacer if detection becomes inconsistent, or consider a wired roller shutter contact designed for the purpose.

Is it suitable for a rented property? Yes. It fixes with adhesive, needs no wiring, and can be removed and refitted elsewhere.
