The Metal Door Release Button is a heavy-duty exit switch designed for professional access control installations.
Built with a solid stainless steel faceplate and metal push button, this unit ensures durability and long-term performance in commercial and industrial environments.
It supports NO (Normally Open), NC (Normally Closed), and COM contacts, making it compatible with magnetic locks, electric strike locks, and drop bolt locks.
Its clean silver finish and engraved “Door Release” marking provide a professional appearance suitable for offices, banks, hospitals, and corporate buildings.
Plain stainless steel, with nothing on the faceplate. This is the unbranded version of our standard metal exit button. Same price, same function, same stainless construction, with a clean plain face and no logo. That distinction matters more than it sounds, because in certain interiors a branded plate is exactly what the specifier does not want on the wall.
Where a plain face is the right call. Hotel corridors, clinic and hospital interiors, premium office suites, showrooms, and any space where a designer has controlled every visible finish. A branded plate in those environments reads as an afterthought. A plain stainless plate simply disappears into the wall, which is what good access control hardware should do.
Our two metal buttons, chosen honestly. This and our 3×2 logo faceplate version are the same price and perform identically. There is no performance argument between them and we will not invent one. Choose the logo version for general commercial and industrial use, and this plain version where appearance is being specified deliberately. We would rather explain that clearly than let you assume one is somehow better.
Stainless steel and daily duty. An exit button on an occupied corridor is operated hundreds of times a week. Stainless handles that indefinitely and still looks presentable after a year, where plastic discolours, wears at the edges, and eventually cracks around the actuator. On any door beyond a rarely used store room, metal is the correct specification.
Flush or surface mounting. It can be recessed into a standard back box for a flush finish, which is usually preferred where appearance matters, or surface mounted where no box exists and chasing the wall is impractical. In an interior where the plain face was chosen for looks, flush mounting is worth the extra effort to finish the job properly.
NO, NC and COM output. All three contacts are supplied. Magnetic locks need the circuit broken to release, so NC. Electric bolt and strike locks generally use NO. Wiring this backwards gives a door that either never releases or never locks, and it remains the most frequent installation error on access controlled doors. Tell us your lock and we will confirm.
Mounting position and cable. Fit on the secure side at waist to chest height where a person naturally reaches, not behind the door swing. Keep the cable in conduit, because an exposed exit button cable is a simple way to release the door from outside and undermines the whole installation.
Not an emergency exit device. It releases the door under normal conditions and depends on the access control system having power. Escape route doors generally also need a break glass emergency release that functions regardless of the system or its supply.
Load shedding. The button needs no power itself. What happens during an outage depends on the lock: magnetic locks release and the door opens, fail secure bolts stay locked. Plan backup power or an emergency release according to how the door must behave.
What is the difference from your other metal button? Faceplate only. That one carries a logo, this one is plain. Same price, same function.
Can it be flush mounted? Yes, into a standard back box, or surface mounted where there is no box.
Which contact for a magnetic lock? NC.
Does it need power? No, the lock does.
