For buildings where zone level information genuinely matters. An eight zone conventional panel is specified for multi storey buildings, larger factories and warehouses, schools with several blocks, hospitals and clinics, plazas, and any premises where a responder arriving at the panel needs to be told something more precise than a general alarm. Eight zones is where conventional fire detection reaches its practical ceiling before addressable systems become the better answer.

Who actually needs eight rather than four. Being straightforward about this saves you money if the answer is no. Choose eight if your building has three or more floors, several separated blocks or wings, a mix of distinct risk areas such as kitchen, generator room, workshop and stores, or a floor plate large enough that a four way split would still leave a responder searching. If your premises is a single commercial floor with a store room, our four zone panel is the proportionate choice and costs less.

Allocating eight zones well. The usual approach in a multi storey building is one zone per floor, with additional zones for high risk areas such as the plant room, kitchen, or main store, and one for stairwells and common escape routes. In a factory, zone by production area, stores, offices, and utilities. What matters is that the zone indication meaningfully shortens the search. Splitting evenly for tidiness, when one area carries most of the risk, wastes the capacity you paid for.

The expansion argument. Adding detectors within an existing zone is straightforward; adding zones beyond panel capacity means replacing the panel entirely. If your building is likely to be extended, subdivided, or have a mezzanine, outbuilding, or additional floor added, buying eight zones now avoids a full panel replacement later. For buildings already at four zones and growing, this is the upgrade path.

When addressable becomes the better choice. We would rather tell you this than oversell a conventional panel. An addressable system identifies the exact individual device that triggered rather than the zone. That matters once a single zone covers so much ground that knowing the zone still leaves a long search, which typically happens in large multi floor buildings, hospitals, and complex industrial sites. If your premises is at that scale, ask us about addressable rather than stretching eight conventional zones beyond what they can usefully tell you.

What the complete system requires. Detectors appropriate to each area, manual call points at every exit and on escape routes, sounders audible in every occupied part including noisy production areas, end of line devices so the panel monitors circuit integrity, backup batteries sized for the load, and fire rated cabling throughout. On an eight zone system the device count and cable runs are substantial, so plan the installation properly rather than treating the panel as the main cost.

Detector selection across a larger building. Smoke detectors for offices, corridors, and general occupied space. Heat detectors for kitchens, boiler and generator rooms, workshops, and dusty stores where smoke detectors would false alarm constantly. With eight zones you can isolate each problem area into its own zone, which makes both detector selection and later fault finding considerably easier. A smoke detector in a kitchen leads to a disabled system, which is more dangerous than no system because everyone assumes they are protected.

Sounders across multiple floors. The alarm must be heard everywhere people work, on every floor, behind closed doors, in washrooms, and inside noisy areas. Multi storey buildings need sounders distributed on each floor rather than concentrated near the panel. In noisy environments use combined sounder and strobe units so the warning is seen as well as heard, which also serves anyone with hearing difficulty.

Backup batteries and load shedding. The panel must keep working when mains power is absent, which in Pakistan is routine. On an eight zone system the standby load is higher than on a small panel, so battery sizing matters more. Size for a realistic outage duration with capacity remaining to sound the alarm across the whole building. Batteries degrade over a few years and are the most neglected part of any fire system.

Interfacing with access control on escape routes. Where escape route doors use magnetic locks or access control, the panel must be wired to release them on alarm, independently of the access system. In a multi storey building this applies at every floor. It is regularly missed when fire and access control are installed by different contractors at different times. We supply both and can ensure they work together.

Testing and record keeping. On a larger system, rotate call point testing so every device is exercised over a period, keep a written log of tests and faults, clean detectors of dust, and check battery condition. Staff on every floor should recognise the alarm and know their escape route.

Is eight zones too many for my building? Send us a floor plan and we will say honestly whether four would serve you better.

Should I consider addressable instead? If the building is large or complex enough that zone level information still means a long search, yes. Ask us.

Can I expand beyond eight zones? Not on this panel. At that point addressable is usually the right direction.
