The glass door bracket for 180kg magnetic locks. This aluminium U bracket clamps around the edge of a frameless or semi frameless glass door, carrying the armature plate without drilling or penetrating the glass. It is the fitting you need when there is simply no frame to screw a bracket into.

Why you cannot use a normal bracket on glass. Standard ZL brackets assume a frame. Frameless glass offers nothing to fix to, and toughened glass cannot be drilled on site without destroying it. The U bracket grips the glass edge using clamping pressure and padding, which carries the load safely while leaving the glass intact.

Measure your glass thickness first. This is the check that prevents almost every problem with glass door fittings. U brackets suit a specific range of glass thicknesses, and a mismatch means the bracket will not close over the glass or will sit loose on it. Measure before ordering, or send us a photograph of the door edge and we will confirm.

Sized for 180kg locks. Armature plate dimensions differ between lock ratings, so order the bracket matching your lock. A 280kg bracket will not correctly carry a 180kg armature and vice versa.

Typical applications. Internal glass partition doors in offices, meeting room doors, showroom internal doors, and light glass entrances. Where the glass door is a main commercial entrance taking heavy daily use, consider a 280kg lock with its matching U bracket instead, and we will advise if you tell us the door.

Clamping pressure, and the mistake to avoid. Tighten firmly enough that the bracket cannot shift, but no further. Overtightening a clamp onto toughened glass creates localised stress, and toughened glass does not crack gradually as a warning, it fails suddenly and completely. Use the padding supplied and tighten evenly across the clamp rather than one side at a time.

Getting alignment right on a swinging glass door. The armature plate must meet the magnet face flush and parallel when closed. Glass doors swing more freely and have no frame to reference against, so this takes more patience than on a framed door. Close the door and confirm the faces meet cleanly across their full surface. An air gap of even a millimetre reduces holding force noticeably, and on a 180kg lock there is less margin to lose.

Leave the plate a little movement. The armature is meant to float slightly so it self aligns as the door closes. Bolting it rigid means it cannot compensate as the door settles, and contact degrades over the following months.

U bracket or ZL bracket? U for frameless glass with no frame, ZL for framed inward opening doors. Send a photograph and we will confirm which yours needs.
