The heavy duty maglock, and when you actually need it. A 380kg holding force is specified for main entrance doors, heavy timber doors, and any opening where someone might realistically apply force. It is the strongest magnetic lock in our range and the right choice where the door is the primary barrier rather than an internal divider.

Do not simply buy the strongest. Holding force should match the door, not your anxiety about it. A light internal or glass partition door is well served by 180kg, and most standard commercial doors by 280kg. Fitting 380kg to a lightweight door achieves nothing except cost, because the door leaf or the frame will fail before the magnet does. Tell us the door material, width, and location and we will recommend a rating rather than the largest one.

What the five wire version adds. A basic maglock has two wires and simply holds or releases. This version adds a status output, meaning the lock reports whether it is actually magnetised and holding rather than the system assuming it is. That matters on doors that genuinely need to stay secure: your access control panel can detect a door that failed to lock and alert you, instead of leaving it open silently overnight. For a server room, stock room, or cash office, that feedback is worth paying for.

Fail safe by design, and what that means here. A magnetic lock releases the instant power is lost. That makes it the correct choice for escape routes, because nobody can be trapped by it. It also means load shedding will open the door. If the door must stay secure through outages, plan a backup supply or UPS at specification stage rather than discovering the behaviour afterwards. Every maglock installation in Pakistan needs this decision made deliberately.

Brackets are not optional, and are the most common ordering mistake. The lock body mounts to the frame and the armature plate to the door, but how they mount depends entirely on your door. An inward opening door normally needs an L bracket. A frameless glass door needs a U bracket that clamps the glass. Outward opening doors, narrow aluminium sections, and double doors each need their own fitting. Ordering a maglock without the matching bracket is the single most common reason an installation stalls halfway through the day. Power supply sizing. Unlike a bolt lock, which only draws current when operating, a magnetic lock draws continuously for as long as the door is locked. Your power supply must be rated for that continuous load, and across several doors the figures add up quickly. An undersized supply produces intermittent faults that are genuinely difficult to diagnose after the fact.

NC wiring and the exit button. Because the lock releases when the circuit breaks, exit buttons and release devices are wired as normally closed. Getting this backwards produces a door that either never locks or never releases, and it is the most frequent wiring error on maglock jobs. Confirm contact types before wiring, particularly when combining a keypad, an exit button, and a break glass unit on the same door.

Fire alarm interfacing. On escape routes the maglock should be wired so that a fire alarm activation cuts power and releases the door independently of the access control system. This is a basic life safety expectation rather than a refinement, and it is regularly missed when the fire panel and the access control are installed by different contractors at different times. We supply both, so we can make sure the two work together.

Maintenance that actually matters. Keep the magnet face and the armature plate clean. Anything between the two surfaces, whether dust, grit, or paint overspray, reduces holding force noticeably. Check periodically that the armature plate still sits flush and has not worked loose, since a slightly loose plate is the usual reason a lock feels weaker than its rating suggests.

Which holding force do I need? Tell us the door material, width, and whether it is internal or a main entrance, and we will recommend rather than upsell.

Will it work on a glass door? Yes, with the correct U bracket or patch fitting. Confirm your glass thickness with us first.

What happens during load shedding? The door releases, because maglocks are fail safe by design. Fit a backup supply if the door must remain secure through outages.

Do I need the five wire version? Only if you want lock status feedback to your controller. For a straightforward door the standard two wire version is sufficient and less expensive.
